About the Journal
The Innsbrucker Historische Studien (IHS) were founded in 1978 by the modern historian Alfred A. Strnad (1937–2003) and have since been edited by historians of the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck. Meanwhile, 35 volumes of the IHS have been published. Since the death of the founder and editor of this series, the IHS have been edited by an editorial team. From the beginning, the editors have been concerned to offer not only established historians but also young scholars an open publication forum for excellent theses. The IHS would like to continue this tradition also in the online format.
The IHS are anchored at the Institute of Historical Sciences and European Ethnology at the University of Innsbruck. In the course of the reorganization of the editorial office, a conceptual reorientation of the journal took place. Since 2007, the volumes are published by one or more responsible editors and are oriented thematically and interdisciplinary. The manifold thematic focal points of the IHS cover - without being spatially restricted - the entire history of the modern era, with attention also being paid to the late Middle Ages, especially the 14th and 15th centuries.
The editorial team is responsible for the strategic and content-related orientation and decision-making process. Since 2021, Marina Hilber, Robert Rebitsch, Kurt Scharr and Elena Taddei have been entrusted with editing the volumes in cooperation with the respective volume editors. An advisory board of selected scholars supports the editorial team in content quality management. All received contributions are subjected to a peer review process by at least one external reviewer. IHS is published by Innsbruck University Press.
